Friday Pinspiration | Our DIY Office Refresh

Happy Friday! Today's Friday Pinspiration is all about my our office update! All based of furniture that we loved and accessories from ideas I pinned on Pinterest. Wait -hold the phone, even before the design was picked, the whole reason we even decided to embark on this DIY journey is because I was in desperate need of a new computer. My architect husband could not bear the though of a shiny new iMac on an old, beat up IKEA desk. Thus, the office update began.

First things first, Chris had to sand the hardwood in this room and our other spare bedroom. That was a long process in itself. Sanding, staining, and sealing - oh my! After he wrapped up Part One of Many, he installed new baseboards and quarter rounds. I never realized how much of a difference that could make in a room. As you can see in the before picture (from the listing) - this room needed A LOT of help! We tore the ugly carpet out the weekend we moved in. Then it pretty much stayed in that condition for 3 years. Ha! Lastly, Chris custom-built the shelving behind my desk. He saw this IKEA hack idea on a DIY blog and made it a reality! Seriously, he is becoming so handy these days.

We decided to purchased furniture that we loved and accessories from ideas I pinned on Pinterest. To say that I am obsessed with this room would be an understatement. I want to sleep in here. I love working in here. I wanted the room to inspire me and give me good vibes. I think it does just that. Take a look!

Friday Pinspiration | Our DIY Kitchen Refresh

Over the summer, Chris and I decided to 'refresh' our kitchen. It all started because of a kitchen cabinets picture that I pinned. They were just like ours - original to the house, plain, but had potential! Once our summer bonuses came, I decided I wanted to add a dishwasher, so we figured it was a good time! We only did a few things to our house (like tearing out ugly carpet) when we moved in. The kitchen was a whole other monster we weren't sure we could tackle. I am so proud of all of the work Chris did. I may have agreed on the items going into the kitchen but he did all of the work. The counter top was his baby. He sanded an Ikea countertop, stained it and sealed it multiple times. It was a labor of love and it looks SO good. He even made a matching top for an older island cart that we had, so we refreshed that too!

Our update includes - hanging new shelves, adding a dishwasher (FINALLY!) trimming and painting the cabinets, new countertop, sink, and faucet. And while I was shooting a wedding, Chris and his dad made a new opening in our living room wall. Don't you think they should be house flippers? Now you can walk the whole way around the house and its ah-mazing!!

THE BEFORE: Just so you get the complete idea of what we were working with. These are when we first toured the house. Eek.

Construction underway. Ugly yellow tile gone and painting in progress!

New, amazing hole in our wall!

New sink and counter top! Then time for the subway tile! Did I mention how Chris did all the work?

THE AFTER: Ahh, in love!

Counter top, Sink, Faucet, Runner: Ikea

Cabinet Hardware and Tile: Home Depot

Gold Planter: West Elm

Marble Baking Slab: Crate + Barrel

Weekend Fix | Bridal Shower Details

Oh  man, do I love details! It's all about the details for me. If I wasn't a photographer, I might have to switch to event planning. Over the weekend, I was on the other side of the wedding scene, as a bridesmaid. My very first and longest standing best friend, Amy,  is getting married in June. If the shower was anything like the wedding will be - it's going to be amazing! Myself and the other bridesmaids, along with Amy's mother, hosted her bridal shower. Amy's mom opened up her home to friends and family on the most beautiful weekend, no showers in sight. We decked the halls in blush, cream, and gold. Each bridesmaid had her specialty and it all came together perfectly! Even the gifts looked styled, all propped up on the warm wooden desk and tied with bows.
