Baby Talk | Nursery Inspiration + Third Trimester FAQ's

It's the start of the third trimester and a lot is happening/ has to happen before the end of this journey. As you might have read in my last baby post, we went on a 'babymoon' to Los Angeles! Once we were home real life was not kind. We had a sick pup and lots of doctors appointments and baby classes to schedule. I have been feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the 'to-do's' that seem never ending. Being that I get a sick sense of pleasure out of projects being completed on time, it will be difficult to not check everything off of the list before her arrival. This weekend is the start of tackling a few home projects before wedding season pre baby is in full swing.

Then, the next major task is to start the nursery! We are turning the den into the baby's room. Since we recently redid this room, see our DIY updates here, there isn't much to do except get the major pieces of furniture like the crib and changing table. We did get to order the crib (on sale!) so at least one major thing is done! Then we will switch out some decor and add some personal touches. We want her room to be neutral but still a little feminine. I love gold, copper, and rose gold so those metallics will make an appearance for sure! Take a look at our nursery inspiration board below!

Just a few Third Trimester FAQs...

How far along am I? 28 weeks, hello third trimester!

How have I been feeling? Starting to feel uncomfortable at points. Things like stiff wrists, restless legs and lower back pain. But I also haven't been able to get to yoga these last few weeks and that always helps.  Hopefully this last trimester doesn't totally kick my butt!

Did you pass your glucose test? That is a big fat, NO! I've got the baby betes. I had to do both tests - short and the long 3 hour test. My levels were slightly high for the fasting draw and after drinking the sugar juice. So unfortunately, I have gestational diabetes. You all know how I feel about blood and needles so these few weeks have been a bit trying for me. We met with the dietitian yesterday to teach us how to check my blood sugar and steps to take to hopefully keep in under control without insulin injections. There is a chance I may have to add that to my care for the next few months but let's hope it doesn't come to that! Anyone else have the betes while preggers?

What classes did you sign up for? We are going to do a baby basics and breastfeeding class at Magee. But I will actually be delivering at Mercy so we also scheduled our hospital tour there. I have heard really positive things about Mercy so I am excited to check out the hospital and hopefully feel calmer about labor and deliver.

Do you plan to get an epidural? As of right now, yes! I know, I know, I just said I hate needles but I think I hate pain more. So the only birthing plan I have is give me the juice.

What food/beverage to you miss the most? Currently, sushi and alcohol. That sounds bad as I type it but come on it's almost summer! Momma wants a margarita! And now that I am not supposed to have juices, I am missing pressed juices.

Are you still shooting until your due date? You betcha! Well, at least until the beginning of July. But schedule early for any fall sessions!

Baby Talk | Gender Reveal + Second Trimester FAQs

I think I have kept you all waiting long enough. So I will just cut right to the chase and deliver the  big news - Baby Bonadio is a GIRL!!

On Thursday, we had our 20 week ultrasound. After lots of progress measurements, the tech asked us if we were ready to know the gender.  I have to admit, I knew already. She said 'It's a girl!' and I replied 'I knew it!'. It's funny because I think you set expectations of what these big life moments should be like and I always imagined feeling really shocked, maybe even crying. But I was at peace. I knew it was a girl all along and now we had confirmation. A sweet baby girl would be joining us in July.

Since I was assisting with a wedding on Friday and we planned to do St. Patrick's Day things on Saturday (until it got cold!), we decided Sunday would be a the best day to surprise our parents with the baby's gender. I ordered cakes from Bella Christie's Sweet Boutique and let them have fun with designing the cakes. My only requirement was sprinkles and a bow on one. I HAD to get this super cute cake topper as the finishing touch because, well, #firstchild. And then I HAD to take pictures of them because #photographermom.

Our first stop was my parent's house. Bo got in on the action too.

Then we headed to the Bonadio's for another reveal and dinner since my mother in law makes a traditional St. Patrick's Day feast every year! Bring on cake #2! You can see how excited my hubby is to be a girl dad. :)

What a fun weekend! Somethings I just couldn't get my head around until I knew the gender. Now I can really start nesting and decorating the nursery. Here are a few Second Trimester FAQs...

How far along am I? 21 weeks, over half way there!

How have I been feeling? Still feeling really good! She is being good to her momma. I do have days when I could eat everything in sight and then some.

Have you felt her yet? YES! Finally, I was hoping I would and at just about 19/20 weeks I could tell she was jumping around. Like little fish tail flops in my belly. She was super active on her ultrasound but I like that I can feel her now.

Do we have a name yet? We have a short list of girl names. However, we won't decide until we deliver. We want to see her before we decide.

What I am most excited for? I am most excited for seeing her personality come to life once she is here!

Do you have a nursery theme? We have some ideas in mind but we really don't have much to do. Honestly, the room we are using is pretty small and most of the decor is staying. I would say minimal and neutral are what we are going for. I will absolutely share a sneak peek once we finished the it.

Friday Pinspiration | Our DIY Den

Happy Fri-yay! Over here at the Bonadio house, we are wrapping up our summer DIY home 'refreshes'. We have now completed our kitchen, my office, and the den/book room. This space was intended to be a bit more masculine since my office is pretty feminine.

Chris refinished the floors in the den while he was refinishing the office floors. Each room got new trim and was looking fresh! After we finished the office, Chris started custom building wall shelving. We (and by we, I mean Chris) bought brackets, spray painted them dark, then stained and sealed the wood shelves.

The last little project for this room was the hairpin leg stool. It might be my favorite piece in the whole room. It turned out SO SO good. The view you see of this room when you walk up the stairs is the best. The art was a vintage find for $5 and the lights and stool just compliment it perfectly! My father in law gave us the wood slab so all we had to get were the legs. We found them here on Etsy. All in all the stool cost us maybe $50 to make.

The last part was accessories! My favorite! Take a look at our DIY Den!
